Reverse Painting, also referred to as Perimetral Painting, is an authorial artistic concept introduced by Armenian artist and screenwriter Vardan Zadoyan in 2026.
The core principle of the concept consists of relocating the painted image from the central canvas to the frame, while the central area of the artwork is replaced with a solid material object, most commonly a wooden block without imagery.
Within this approach:
• the frame functions as the primary canvas;
• the central space is deliberately deprived of visual narrative;
• the viewer’s attention is shifted from the image itself to its boundary and contextual limits.
